Casualty/Medical | Casualty Roll: Wounded. Battle at the River Alma. 20 September 1854. Unfit for the duties of a soldier in consquence of chronic enlargement of scrotum and weakness of left leg. The disease of scrotum is the result of a bruise when on duty in Turkey. The weakness of left leg is from a gun shot wound at the Battle of Alma. Three circular cicatrices below left knee and one on calf left leg, also one on inner side right leg from abscesses [Chatham, Feby 26th 1857]. There is a record of correspondence for pay in arrears for 80 days at Scutari from 25 Sep to 14 Dec 1854 @ 8½d. per day. This may suggest he was hospitalised during this period. |
