States that he was invalided from the West Indies for far back as 1848 for pulmonary disease. While in India during the Mutiny contracted disease of the chest which he still suffers from (Chronic Bronchitis). Ascribed to climate and hard service. Was wounded by a fragment of a shell on back of hand in Crimea and states he has been subject to pains on hand ever since. Unfit for further service [Chatham 11 Nov 1861]. |
