Splinter of shell cut away the muscle of upper part of right arm [WO97 front page]. Gunshot wound of the right arm. Not prior to enlistment as the wound was received in action. Cannot be repassed into the service. Not caused or aggravated by the use of intoxicating liquors or other indulgences or vice. The wound is in the soft parts of the upper arm. Was caused by a portion of shell and has produced ? of the forearm with inability to close the fingers. Forearm much wasted – hand useless from inability to close the fingers. This state of things must seriously affect his capacity of gaining a livelihood [Dublin Nov 14th 1863]. |
